Frequently Asked Questions
What makes your practice different?
We provide a personalized, holistic approach that focuses on understanding you as a whole person rather than only a cluster of symptoms. Quality over quantity guides our care. Appointment times are longer so you don’t feel rushed and there’s time to explore what’s really happening — looking for answers, not quick fixes. In addition to traditional, evidence-based psychiatric care, we offer functional medicine services as part of a broader treatment plan. We offer advanced lab testing to identify and address physiological imbalances that may be affecting your overall health and wellbeing. Treatment is not limited to medications: we provide medication management combined with psychotherapy appointments so you feel both understood and supported. All of this is delivered virtually through the web to make care convenient and accessible.
do you take insurance?
Currently, we are not in-network with any insurance companies. If you have out-of-network benefits through your insurance plan, then you may submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement. We will provide you a super-bill to submit with your claim once payment is received.
As required for Opt-out providers, Medicare beneficiaries will need to sign our ‘private contract’ agreeing not to file a claim for reimbursement of services.
what are the cost of services?
We utilize a similar coding system as the insurance companies based on time and complexity of the visit. There is a Fee Schedule which breaks down the different levels of service and the cost. This will need to be signed prior to your initial visit. Click here to view our most current Fee Schedule.
Patients will also be provided with a “Good Faith Estimate” upon request and/or in writing after their appointment is scheduled. If the bill is more than $400 than the estimate, patients may dispute it according to the federal “No Surprises Act”.
The current average cost for an initial visit is $400, and for follow-ups $200, with it occasionally costing more or less than this due to time or complexity.
what areas do you serve?
The entire state of Texas. This covers major cities such as Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio, along with their surrounding counties, in addition to numerous smaller cities and rural communities across the state.
What Ages do you treat?
Adults ages 18 years and older, spanning young adults through middle age and into older adulthood, including seniors.
do you have a physical location that i could be seen at?
No — all of the care is provided virtually through telemedicine, so appointments and follow-ups are completed online.
WHAT SORT OF PSYCHOTHERAPY DO YOU DO?
Various approaches tailored to your specific mental health needs. Supportive psychotherapy being the most common. A medication management and psychotherapy combo appointment must be booked to receive both services.
CAN YOU FILL OUT FORMS OR PROVIDE A LETTER?
We are happy to assist you by completing most forms and letters, including FMLA paperwork, accommodation requests, disability forms, and emotional support animal or service dog letters. Each request will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and your provider reserves the right to deny any request. Please note that particularly lengthy or complex requests may incur additional fees.
DO YOU NEED TO BE GOOD WITH TECHNOLOGY TO DO TELEMEDICINE/VIRTUAL PSYCHIATRY?
No, it is quite easy. All you need is an email address, a device with a camera and microphone/speaker, and, importantly, a reliable internet connection. Most people use their smartphone, though you can also join from a computer, laptop, or tablet. We utilize the application Zoom which has been configured to be HIPAA-compliant. You can download the Zoom app and create a free account or you can choose to join your visit without creating an account by simply clicking the link in your email. Either way you can rest assured your visit is secure and confidential.
can i bring my significant other, friend, or other family member to the appointment?
Yes, you may bring anyone to the appointment. Please inform your doctor though so that they can make note of who was present during the visit. I do not advise bringing minor children to the appointment due to the sensitive nature of the conversations.
how often will we meet?
Traditionally, follow-up appointments are every 6-8 weeks if medications are added or changed. If no changes are made to your medications then a 3-4 month follow-up is usually scheduled. Of course, the appointment date can always be moved up if concerns arise. Once a treatment goal is achieved for a prolonged period, then follow-up can be spaced out to every six months. Sometimes, individuals may need or desire more frequent follow-up such as weekly or monthly visits. A follow-up visit at least every six months is required for any medication refills.
HOW DO i GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU OUTSIDE OF MY REGULAR APPOINTMENT?
You are welcome to call by phone. If it is after hours then please leave a message and messages will be returned in order of priority usually within 24-48 hours. Also, you may send us a message using the secure patient portal.
what mental health conditions do you treat?
Most all mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar and schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder.
The only conditions that we do not currently manage/treat are: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or dementia.
are there any medications that you won’t prescribe?
Currently, the DEA is revising regulations on the prescription of Controlled Substances through telemedicine with an expected final rule by the end of 2026. It is uncertain what the new rules and requirements will be. So, to avoid any disruptions in care the decision has been made not to prescribe any controlled substances at this time. This decision may change once the regulations have been finalized.
Controlled substances in psychiatry include:
Stimulant medications (adderall, concerta, vyvanse, etc.)
Benzodiazepines (xanax, clonazepam, lorazepam, temazepam, etc.)
Sedative-Hypnotics (ambien, sonata, lunesta, etc.).
Antidepressants, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics and other psychiatry medications are NOT controlled substance and therefore not affected by these regulations.
